Biking is one great activity to do when you want to exercise and loosen up your muscles. For some people, biking is more than an occasional hobby to perform but a sustainable and practical mode of transportation. Biking on your way to school, work or any destination can help you save on fuel cost and is also an environment friendly commute alternative. Yet before you bike your way on the road, make sure that your bike has all the necessary accessories to keep you safe and secure while on the road.

Your bike must be equipped with a satisfactory light source placed at the front part. This light must be white in color and can produce either a flashy or steady light beam. More than lighting your way, this headlight will provide you with a much needed visibility on the road, especially in a city road, with other vehicles. Headlights may be powered with different types of batteries. Some of these batteries are rechargeable and has specific duration for supplying the headlights with sufficient power. Headlights made of LED or halogen bulbs are ideal when bright light is required.

At the rear end of the bike is the tail light. If the headlight is required to be white, the tail light should be in red. Bike tail lights come in various lights or blink patterns. Some are steady, others flash continuously. Tail light will also provide any biker the visibility in the road so that approaching vehicles and those just behind can see the biker. Many tail lights for bikes are powered with two pieces of AA-sized batteries and can remain lighted up for hundreds of hours. The tail light may be clipped onto the biker's belt or backpack or it could also be set up on the bike's seat post.

A Bicycle basket or rack is where all your necessities may be stored. A commuting biker on the road usually carries a backpack for carrying his personal stuffs and a basket or rack may be an additional storage for all the other things that the biker needs to carry along with him. A basket is normally found at the front part of the bike while the rack is placed at the rear part and attached to the seat post. There are bicycle racks that are designed to easily be removed through a release mechanism.

A Bike in commuting should also have fender which covers the wheels of the bike. Bicycle wheel fenders are especially useful when biking on a rainy and wet day. The fender will block any water and mud that would splash and be thrown as the wheel turns so you are prevented from getting dirty. A fender may be plastic or metal made and must be chosen in relation to the size of the wheel. It requires minimal effort to install and is lightweight.

Some basic tools, despite being non bike accessories, are also needed when biking on public roads. Any motorist would know how important these tools are, no matter is the vehicle is small or big, and regardless of the number of wheels it has. These tools will help you fix the bike when it slightly goes kaput. There are basic biking tool kits that can be bought from sporting equipment and goods stores that contains the most useful devices in any bike repairs.
